I am delighted that I can today announce details for this years ladies scottish singles championship. The event is being held in The Murray Owen Centre, East Kilbride on the weekend of 4th - 6th November, 2011; the ladies singles will commence on the Friday evening. This year our event is being run alongside the Scottish Open Singles, and the finals of all other SPA sections.

As the Scottish Singles is the premier event in our domestic calendar, attendance at this event is once again compulsory for all Scotland Ladies International Pool Players. Entry form will be emailed to everyone in the next day or so and of course available as a download on both the ladies and main spa site.

Please note that the SPA Dress Code applies for this tournament (polo shirt, dress trousers & shoes). No denims, leggings or trainers will be permitted.

Closing date for entries is 16th October, 2011 so please get the form filled in and returned to me as soon as possible. Please send a cheque for 10.00 (made payable to Scottish Ladies Pool Team) along with your entry form.

I am of course on the lookout for a sponsor for the event, if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

If you have any questions, please post them on here and I will do my best to answer them asap.

Kind regards,

Yvonne Ewing
Scottish Ladies Pool Team Manager

Is there a reason for this starting on a Friday night? And what time will the first matches be?

I'm assuming a timed draw will be made available so people know when they need to turn up?

Im just thinking about the long day at work, having to rush home for tea, shower, changed then through to e Kilbride to play a game of pool. Has this not always been a Saturday start?

If this is a compulsory event it should be a Saturday or Sunday when the majority of people will be off. Esp people travelling up from Wales/Eng/Shet etc, will they have to take a day/extra day off work to play in this?

Hi Yvonne, obviously i would love to play in this event, however i will not know if i am available due to work and babysitter commitments until nearer the time. Is the entry date of 16th October set in stone? If not can i let you know the week before the competition. Normally the draws are done on the day anyway so hopefully this wont cause too much of an issue.
Thanks x

Please refer to this forum on the main site, the venue have cancelled on us.

Therefore the ladies event will be separate from the gents and over the one day (Saturday). I wil keep you all informed of any update (Ross working on our venue).

It never rains but it pours!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally i feel gutted by this as the scottish the last few years hasnt felt like the main event like it used to when all events were together...what sickens me more is there has still been a provision made for the other events but ladies been wiped from it all together. why not have even made it qualifiers up to last 8 or something on saturday and the last 8 would then play along with the mens at their venue??

Not sure what you're saying here?
What other events?

The open event was due to be played as a best of 19, which was fine in a venue with 16 tables. It's now having to be moved to a venue with 8 tables, which means that we would be struggling to schedule in that amount of frames. It'll be an incredibly long 2 days as it is trying to fit in all the matches without adding in any more.

I agree it is disappointing, but this is totally out of our control. All we have to do now is to put on the events as best we can with the minimum of disruption.

well where is the harm in cutting it back to first to 8 at least for the first couple of rounds?

All youth and juniors are still playing along side men on the sunday at their final stages.

What i am suggesting is ladies do the same play the event to a level at alternate venue then surely there will be table time available on the sunday for the ladies too espcially as a venue like red trianlge could easily fit another table at the top area

It may end up being that they do have to cut it back, but it's important, as the biggest event on the SPA calendar, that we can maintain it as close to what has been advertised as possible.

It's only the youths and juniors finals that are being played. That is so that they can be live streamed. Also some of the youths and juniors are also in the main event, as such this couldn't then be seperated.

I don't think another table at the top end of the red triangle is appropriate given the volume of people that would be milling about that area.

There will be abolutely no spare time on the Sunday, unless it's really late at night, once the main event is at least at the Qtr-Final stage.
Can't imagine many of the ladies wanting to play up to the final on Saturday and then turn up at 7-8pm on the Sunday to play the final?!

None of this is ideal, and the intention was to have all events on at the same time, and hopefully this will be in place next year. For this year though, the best solution is to seperate the events in order for everything to run as smoothly as possible. I dare say, not everybody will agree, but I certainly prefer that, to having an event run into the early hours of the morning because too much has been squeezed into the schedule.

Yeah im gutted too, I have fought to keep the ladies Scottish alongside the gents as I feel its the most prestigious event on the SPA calendar and our showcase events.

However, events outwith our (SPA) control unfolded with South Lanarkshire Council double booking the hall, we, the SPA, had our event cancelled with what some ten days notice.

It seems to me you think that a provision was already in place for the gents, this I can assure you isnt the case, Ross and I have been in regular contact over the past day trying to source a venue for both competitions. I am hoping to have our venue finalised by tomorrow to let you all know where its being held. It wont be in the same venue as the gents, simply because time doesnt allow it. The youths, juniors and Under 23 categories have already played to their final and they are remaining alongside the gents to ensure these kids get their final live streamed on the internet.

I am angry at the council, really annoyed about the late cancellation of the venue and the impact its having on our flagship events.

At times I wonder why I bother.............
