Scottish Ladies Tour Event Four 2008

Scottish Ladies TourSaturday 18th October was the date for Event No 4 of the 2008 Blackball Ladies Pool Tour which was once again held in Pennies Bar, Falkirk. After the recent successful trip to the Isle of Man, the 2008 British Ladies Singles Champion, Linda Gillies was in the field looking to continue on her winning ways.

Linda Gillies, left, eventually seals a tour victory at her 3rd attempt this season against virgin finalist, Denise "Neesie" Laing of the Falkirk Mental.

Ladies Tour Event 4

First Round

Scotland Ladies B team players Krystyna Goudie (Steenie) and Diane Colville, who last week won the Midlothian Ladies Singles title, met in the first round with Diane coming out the 6-3 victor. Karlyn Coghill beat another B team internationalist Jenny Lawson by the same score line. England B team internationalist Becky Lecky has made the journey from London and won her first round match against Katie Black by 6 frames to 2.

Last 32

Diane Colville was up against Lynsey Selkirk and strolled to a 6-1 victory, Angie Mackay had a tough opponent in Sandra Bell, in a match that could have went either way, Angie came through by 6 frames to 4. Gaynor McHaffie progressed to the last 16 with a hard fought 6-4 victory over Alice Horne. Englandís Sarah Trudgett (tour event 3 winner) was up against Kim Black next and won this one by 6 frames to 2. Becky Lecky convincingly beat Jackie McIntyre by 6 frames to 1. Louise Hillman against Carol Hunter was a tough match to call with both players playing extremely well, Louise managed to win this one by 6 frames to 3. The 2008 British Ladies Champion, Linda Gillies was up next against another player from Inverness, Joanne Macpherson; Linda looked in fine form, winning by 6 frames to 1. Scotland Ladies a team captain, Shona Lucas played a new player to the tour, Terri Lapsley. You could see Terri was nervous in her first tour and Shona won by 6 frames to 1. Pauline Selkirk put paid to Karlyn Coghillís hopes with a 6-2 victory.

Last 16

Tour 1 and 2 winner Elaine Campbell was up against Diane Colville in the last 16. Diane played extremely well in defeating Elaine by 6 frames to 2. Angie Mackay beat fellow Scotland Ladies A team player Gaynor McHaffie by 6 frames to 3. Denise Laing out paid to the hopes of a double tour triumph for Sarah Trudgett as she progressed to the quarter finals with a 6-3 victory. Becky Lecky beat Ladies B team manager Heather Stewart by the same score line. Gillian Hayes against Louise Hillman was a very tough match to call, well done Gillian on winning this one 6-4. Linda Gillies continued playing well and defeated Yvonne Saunders by 6 frames to 3. Shona Lucas beat Katie Paterson by 6 frames to 2 which set up a quarter final clash with Yvonne Ewing after she defeated Pauline Selkirk by 6 frames to 1.

The quarter finals has a repeat of last weeks Midlothian Ladies Masters final with Angie looking to gain some revenge on Diane, however Diane was playing very well and progressed to her first tour semi final with a 6-3 victory. Denise Laing defeated Becky Lecky by the same score line. Linda Gillies defeated Gillian Hayes by 6 frames to 2 which set up a semi final with Yvonne Ewing after Yvonne beat fellow a team player Shona Lucas by 6 frames to 4.

Diane Colville against Denise Laing was a match that swung one way then the other, Diane took an early lead only for Denise to peg this back and win 5 in a row to progress to her first tour final, well done Denise. Linda Gillies against Yvonne Ewing was a repeat of the British Ladies Singles a fortnight ago in Isle of Man. Linda took a 3-0 lead which she didnít look like relinquishing and defeated Yvonne by 6 frames to 3.

The final was played between Denise Laing and Linda Gillies, Linda took an early lead in this match and continued playing extremely well, she defeated Denise by 6 frames to 2 to win Tour No, 4. A good final to watch and some fantastic pool was played by both players. Well done Linda, three finals in a row and third time lucky on the win lol.

Another successful tour event; some fantastic pool played by the girls on very difficult tables. Thanks go to Davy Anderson and the staff at Pennies for looking after us while we were there. The grand final which is being held on Saturday 6th December, 2008 at 11am Ė see you all there!!
