2010 Scottish Ladies Blackball Tour - Event Three

Scottish Ladies TourLast 32
First match in event 3 was international b team mates Gemma Keenan against Fiona Herd, Gemma progressed to the last 16 courtesy of a fine 6-4 victory. Shona Lucas who has travelled from Wisbech that morning secured a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Roda Young. Lynsey Selkirk played very well in defeating team mate Kim Black by 6 frames to 3. Result of the round was Terri Lapsley’s very impressive 6-1 victory over Gaynor McHaffie, well done Terri a brilliant result for you. Gemma Clyde again Lisa Dominick was a match that went to a final frame decider, Gemma held her nerve to progress to the last 16. Jackie Williamson against Sandra Bell was another match that went to the wire; Jackie has to use all her international experience to progress. Laura Colquhoun against Heather Stewart was the next match; Laura secured what in the end up was a comfortable 6-2 victory. Event 2 winner, Claire Dempster had a tough opening match against Shetland’s Amanda Cutt; Claire progressed via a tight 6-4 victory. Vandana Hegde secured a very good 6-2 victory over Anne Irvine in a match that appeared very difficult to call.

Last 16
Our number one ranked player was the first match of the last 16, where Linda Gillies secured a very impressive 6-0 victory over Gemma Keenan. Shona Lucas proved too strong for Lynsey Selkirk and progressed to the quarter finals courtesy of a 6-1 victory. Terri Lapsley continued to impress with a fantastic 6-4 victory over Gillian Hayes; special mention to Terri here, she has in this event defeated two of the Scotland A girls attending France for the World Championships, no mean feat so well done wee yin . Yvonne Ewing was up against Gemma Clyde in the next match, she progressed to the quarter final with a very good 6-0 victory. Yvonne Saunders played very well in defeating Jackie Williamson by 6 frames to 2; this set up a clash with Laura Colquhoun who progressed to the quarter finals courtesy of a 6-1 victory over Pauline Selkirk. Claire Dempster defeated Falkirk’s Katie Paterson by 6 frames to 2 which set up a quarter final against Elaine Campbell who looked to be playing very well in defeating Vandana Hegde by 6 frames to 2.

Two of Scotland’s finest players were up against each other in the first quarter finals; Shona Lucas and Linda Gillies are without two of our most respected and talented players. This match was tough to call and was a re-run of the 2009 Scottish Championship final. Shona reversed the Scottish result by progressing to the quarter finals with a very good 6-3 victory. This set up a clash against Ladies international Manager, Yvonne Ewing who had to play well against an on fire Terri Lapsley; Yvonne got that wee rub at 3-2 when a ball she tried to double, double doubled to put her two frames ahead. Yvonne progressed courtesy of a 6-2 victory. Laura Colquhoun against Yvonne Saunders was the next quarter final, Yvonne keep the odd frame ahead until Laura managed to level the match at 4-4; she then took the next two to progress to her first semi final for the season, final result 6-4. Claire Dempster and Elaine Campbell; in anyone’s eyes two of the best potters in the ladies game and always a very tough match to call. Claire progressed to the semi final after securing a 6-4 victory.

The first semi final was Scotland Ladies Manager against Scotland Ladies Captain, two good friends off the table and a very tough match for both players. Yvonne progressed to her first final of the season after securing a surprising 6-1 victory. This set up a final clash against Claire Dempster who defeated Laura Colquhoun by the same score line. Well done Laura in getting to the semi final.

The final was played between Yvonne Ewing and Claire Dempster; yet again there was a decent amount of spectators watching the final which both players decided to play best of 5 due to the fundraising Pools Got Talent night. Claire secured her second tour victory in a row with a final frame victory over Yvonne. Huge congratulations to Claire Dempster in winning her second tour in a row, a very difficult task to fulfill – I am sure it is the second of many

Another very successful tour event and a big thank you to Gary and the staff at Cue Here in Airdrie for hosting the event and making the ladies feel very welcome. I am sure we are all looking forward to the next event which is being held on Saturday 30th October, 2010, again in Cue Here.

Pool's Got Talent
Special mention also to Zeneide Fruin, Lynsey Selkirk and Pauline Selkirk who won Pools Got Talent on behalf of the ladies section, not only can we play pool girls but some of us (ahem) can sing too. All I am going to add is Gill and Laura; I have got a long time to pay you both back
