Dunno. I will still go if I can't get anyone to take my place, I just have a lot of other things on around that time and could do without the extra expense. Has Effy pulled out for definite?

2010 SCOTTISH LADIES BLACKBALL POOL TOUR Event No. 1

Scottish Ladies TourLast 32

A newcomer to this year’s tour, Amanda Sargenti was first up against b team internationalist Terri Lapsley. Terri proved too strong for Amanda and won comprehensively by 6 frames to 0. Jenny Lawson defeated a returning player to the tour, Roda Young, by the same score. I would like to say a huge welcome back to Roda after taking a few years out due to ill health. Katie Paterson defeated fellow B team internationalist Lynsey Selkirk by 6 frames to 3. Diane Colville was up against Lisa Dominick and came through courtesy of a 6-2 victory. Shona Lucas was against youngster Katie Black and played very well in securing a 6-0 victory. Gemma Keenan defeated Sandra Bell by 6 frames 4, both players played very well in this match. Kathy Paton defeated practice partner Gemma Clyde by 6 frames to 1. Denise Laing had to use all her experience to secure a 6-4 victory over Laura Colquhoun after Laura has taken a 3-0 lead. Kim Black chalked up an impressive 6-4 victory over experienced internationalist Amanda Cutt. Gaynor McHaffie against Vandana Hegde was the last match in this round and Gaynor progressed, winning by 6 frames to 3.

Last 16

Leanne Evans against Terri Lapsley was the first match in this round, Terri competed very well before Leanne won by 6 frames to 3. Katie Paterson showed that her practice is paying off and progressed to the quarter final courtesy of a 6-4 victory. Diane Colville defeated Pauline Selkirk by 6 frames to 3. Arguably the tie of the round was Scotland Ladies Manager and Captain; Shona Lucas and Yvonne Ewing; both players struggled and the match was full of mistakes; Yvonne progressed with an uncomfortable 6-4 victory. Yvonne Saunders progressed to yet another quarter final via a 6-2 victory over Gemma Keenan. Kathy Paton impressively defeated fellow internationalist Gillian Hayes by 6 frames to 2. Denise Laing continued playing very well and secured a 6-4 victory over Kim Black. Gaynor McHaffie was playing Linda Gillies, Linda progressed to yet another quarter final, winning by 6 frames to 1.

Quarter-Finals

The quarter finals put Leanne Evans against Katie Paterson, Leanne played very well winning by 6 frames to 0. This set up a semi final clash against Yvonne Ewing after she defeated Diane Colville by 6 frames to 1. This was a repeat of the ladies singles final from the Catalonia which Yvonne won by 5 frames to 3. Yvonne Saunders booked her semi final slot after winning 6 frames to 4 against Kathy Paton. Denise Laing was kicking herself as she missed a glorious final frame chance and allowed Linda Gillies to step in to clear up and progress.

Semi-Finals

Leanne Evans was up against Yvonne Ewing; a match that could have gone either way as both players were cueing really well, both breaking and dishing in the match. Leanne was just slightly better and progressed to the final with a very good 6-4 victory. Linda Gillies seemed to have had enough of close matches and final frame deciders and looked very strong in progressing to the final with an impressive 6-1 victory over Yvonne Saunders.

Final

The final was played between Leanne Evans and Linda Gillies; there was a decent amount of spectators watch the final which didn’t disappoint. Leanne secured her victory with a very good 6-4 victory. Well done Linda who is without a doubt the most consistent female player in Scotland. Congratulations Leanne in winning the first event of the season, brilliant – a player whom I feel we all have to catch this season.

All in all, another very successful first tour event for this season.  Thanks go to the management and staff of The Corner Pocket in Falkirk for hosting the event and I am sure we are all looking forward to the next event which is being held on Saturday 26th June, 2010 in Hustler’s, Rosyth.
